Explore Älvdalen's hidden and forgotten places
What happens to our identities when places are abandoned or fall into oblivion? Which interior and exterior spaces should we revisit more often? For our residency project SPACE & PLACE ÄLVDALEN, we are now searching for dance artists who, together with organizers and audiences, want to explore these questions and organize a dance party at an unknown destination.
In northern Dalarna, on the border to Norway, lies the sprawling municipality of Älvdalen. The region's 7,000 inhabitants. Here are beautiful natural areas and lively, vibrant spaces, as well as places that have been forgotten and public works of art in desperate need of attention.
We are now looking for individuals or groups who, together with the organizers and local residents, want to arouse curiosity for locations and spaces in the region, culture in general and dance in particular.
During this four-week residency your task will be to prepare an artistic manifestation or party together with onsite project leaders, which can also include and engage residents of Älvdalen. The location of this party, the ‘destination unknown’, is an abandoned community which was once home to 300 people.
Our ambition with this residency is to enable dance to take its rightful place in Älvdalen and create interesting artistic meetings. We believe that with the power of culture we can create role models that will strengthen the sense of identity for Älvdalen's residents. Together with our selected artistic project team we hope to appeal to a wide target group, with children, young people and the elderly all equally welcome.
Who can apply?
Professional dance artists in collaboration with other creators. We welcome applications from Sweden and other countries.
When?
