Cullberg is one of Sweden's leading touring dance companies with a strong international standing, founded by Birgit Cullberg in 1967. We present choreographers from all over the world and produce high-quality contemporary dance. Cullberg is part of Riksteatern and is based in Botkyrka, but has its own artistic direction, as well as a technical and administrative team.

What does the job entail?

Welcome to apply for the job as Ensemble Manager at Cullberg!  Cullberg has a mission to tour throughout Sweden and internationally. We bring people together from different countries to create contemporary dance for audiences around the world – regardless of whether they live in Falun or Berlin. We have permanent staff for technology and production as well as an ensemble of dancers. In addition, we bring in artistic staff per production.

As Ensemble Manager at Cullberg, you will be involved in all parts of the company. You will be part of a management team together with the Technical Manager and the Operations Manager, and you will report to the Artistic Director. The team is responsible for developing the business and developing strategies to meet Cullberg's goals, mission and artistic vision. Together, you manage the day-to-day operations of the company.

You work to ensure that Cullberg as an institution contributes to the development of contemporary dance, and you have a strong focus on the artistic quality and that the work follows the artistic direction.

The Ensemble Manager’s main responsibilities relate to the ensemble's work including planning, daily training, casting, auditions. You are responsible for the individual competence and artistic development of the ensemble and the dancers.

You will work closely with the company's Rehearsal Directors. You are the head of the company's ensemble including dancers on production contracts and are the interns' closest supervisor.

What is important for the role?

We are looking for someone who is interested in and has knowledge of the role and development of the dancer and who wants to work both in a managing and developing way according to Cullberg's artistic line.

You have an artistic degree or equivalent knowledge acquired in some other way.

You have broad and relevant knowledge in the field of contemporary dance. You have experience in leading groups and think that work management is both fun and important. You have a background as a dancer, dance teacher, rehearsal director or similar. Since you will be the dancers' immediate manager, personnel administration is included, and it is important that you have experience in administrative work and in working in different computer systems including Office 365. If you have experience of working in a leading role in a similar structure, it is an advantage.

You write and speak English fluently. We would like you to have basic knowledge in Swedish and be open to learning more. If you speak several languages, it is an advantage.

Your leadership is characterized by your confident and stable manner. You create connection and participation, as well as lead and motivate to achieve common goals. You are both clear and responsive in your way of communicating, and you can easily give feedback. As Cullberg has an international assignment and the company consists of a diversity of perspectives and experiences, we value that you have a good understanding of different lived experiences. You appreciate differences and understand how background, cultural expressions and society affect and interact with each other.

As an employee at Riksteatern, you are part of a positive and collegial environment characterized by collaboration, equality and diversity. We place great emphasis on personal suitability in recruitment.
