About the production:
Award-winning Camille Boitel and Sève Bernard from L’immédiat will create a new circus production co-produced by Riksteatern (Sweden), &Espoo Theatre (Finland), and Vendsyssel Teater (Denmark).
The production will have six separate lab periods in Stockholm, Vendsyssel, and Helsinki throughout 2025 and 2026. The premiere is set for January 2027 in Vendsyssel, followed by a tour in Sweden and Finland until June 2027.
Camille and Sève's invitation to the circus artist:
“As creators, we currently have around fifteen pieces in our company’s repertoire, all of which explore a highly engaging relationship with the audience.
Circus, rather than merely through its form, is always present in the audience, who leave our shows feeling exhausted as if they’ve caught vertigo through empathy.
We rarely use traditional circus equipment; instead, we opt for everyday objects that evoke life. The physical techniques we employ are always invented exclusively for each show we create. Everything is tailor-made for each piece.
While there is a construction of virtuosity, it often feels more like luck or accidents rather than skills or know-how. We develop a subtle physical technique—always half-invisible to the audience—that serves the rhythm of the performance or creates surprise, contributing to the depth of our artistic expression. For us, the circus technique is a tool for committing essential acts.
We explore the concept of an involuntary circus, drawing inspiration from life itself, focusing on the fragile rather than the powerful. For this project, we invite artists who possess exceptional technical skills but are willing to conceal them so that technique is not the focal point. Instead, it will be transformed for the show we create for them. We are looking for artists who can channel their virtuosity into profoundly human expressions.—not in the service of a feat but in the service of the piece. As part of this project, we want to postpone the writing process as much as possible to allow for the encounter that will take place.
We are excited to extend an invitation to a truly adventurous experience. It may be humorous but also profound, intensely beautiful yet trivial, something both simple and impossible—all happening as if it had always been meant to.”
